Florida Wildlife Hospital

Live Animal Presentation

November 2022

On November 14th 2022 Grand Harbor Audubon welcomed 70 members of the Grand Harbor community to a presentation by Florida Wildlife Hospital of Melbourne. Since 1973, Florida Wildlife Hospital has rescued, rehabilitated, and released thousands of sick, injured, and orphaned native Florida animals in Brevard County. Outreach Manager Lindsay Mayer displayed a Screech Owl with only one eye and a Red-Shouldered Hawk. She described the work of Florida Wildlife Hospital, gave some practical advice about living with native animals, and provided guidance about what to do if you find an injured animal. More information can be found on their website at floridawildlifehospital.org.

Audubon Day
January 7th 2023

On a picture-perfect day on Saturday, January 7, over 100 people celebrated Audubon Day.  This is an annual fun event open to club members and guests that includes a tennis tournament, 9-hole golf tournament, and a dinner featuring awards and prizes.  It is also the only fund-raising event Grand Harbor Audubon hosts.  The proceeds from Audubon Day (together with membership dues and donations) are reinvested in the Grand Harbor community in such things as educational programs and speakers, equipment and materials to enhance wildlife habitat, native species habitat and our native garden and pollinator garden.

The event was a hit.  Although the pickleball courts were not yet ready for play, we had a well subscribed tennis event with players competing in 4 divisions.  Two golf divisions were played, one on the River combo course and the other on the back 9 of the Harbor course.  Over 100 people joined us for a buffet dinner, during which awards and prizes were given to the event winners, share-the-pot raffle payouts were made and 3 lucky winners received dinners for 4 donated by Grand Harbor Club management.  The success of any event like this is dependent on so many things going right (and they did) and the robust participation by our members and friends.  We thank those of you who participated, as well as those who supported us by renewing their annual memberships, making donations, purchasing notecards, raffle tickets and mulligans. A special thank you the volunteers who helped check you in, and ensured your tables were decorated.  And a big shout out to Grand Harbor’s staff who worked so hard to make your experience a good one, and our event run smoothly.
